Work for a brighter future – Vietnam will host ILC 109

(LDXH) From June 10th to June 21st, the 108th International Labor Conference of the International Labor Organization (ILC 108) was established in Geneva (Switzerland) with the participation of more than 40 leaders, representatives of government agencies, workers and employers from 187 ILO member countries and territories.
The delegation of the Government of Vietnam was led by Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung.
Vietnam appreciated cooperation with ILO
In his speech, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung appreciated and supported the ILO Initiative "Working for a Better Future" launched by ILO General Director Guy Ryder. The Vietnamese Government valued ILO's cooperation and technical assistance, especially in the areas of labor law reform, improving social insurance and salary policies, implementation of international commitments in the international integration process, as well as efforts towards ratifying ILO's key conventions.

“Over the past 100 years, governments, workers and employers all over the world have gathered together in ILO on the basis of the firm belief that widespread and sustainable peace depends on the equality in society. For Vietnam, we also celebrate the 100 years of traveling with the ILO and on that journey - the ILO founders and President Ho Chi Minh shared the same ideal to ensure satisfactory employment and bring happiness. for everyone. In particular, recently, on June 14, 2019, the National Assembly of Vietnam ratified the ILO Convention 98 on the application of the principles of organizational rights and collective bargaining with a very high support rate "- Minister Dao Ngoc Dung said.
Make sure no workers are left behind
Currently, the world is entering the digital revolution, applying artificial intelligence, biotechnology, which impacts every aspect of modern life. That context promises new opportunities not only for businesses, but also for most people through great potential in improving productivity. However, many people might be left behind after that. Therefore, it is necessary to constantly improve skill level for employees and business owners, it is not an option but a mandatory task.

For Vietnam, the Government always prioritizes the protection of workers' rights at work under the impact of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, promoting decent and sustainable jobs with new approaches to improve life quality of workers, towards a future with economic security, equality and social justice. “Vietnam supports the ILO through a century-old Declaration celebrating the 100th anniversary of ILO with the content: effectively implementing lifelong learning and high - quality education for all people; full and sustainable social security; respecting the basic rights of workers; affordable living wage; limit the maximum working hours; labor safety and hygiene at work; the ability to achieve a balance between work and better life ”- Minister Dao Ngoc Dung said.
At the ILC108 Conference, delegations focused on discussing the future of global policy-making and response to the challenges of globalization, population aging and breakthrough technology under the impact of the Industrial Revolution 4.0; sharing and exchanging lessons and experiences on policies, laws, practical implementation, tripartite cooperation to solve the challenges of future employment…

In addition to the official meetings in ILC 108, the Vietnamese delegation had a meeting with Ms. Deborah Greenfield, Deputy General Director of ILO. Minister Dao Ngoc Dung stated the priorities for cooperation with ILO in the coming years, including: Continuing to improve the draft revised Labor Code for the National Assembly to approve; increasing support for law enforcement mechanisms; capacity building for tripartite partners; supporting Vietnam to study and ratify Convention 105, the domesticization of the Convention 98 and the ratified Convention; human resource development in the context of industrial revolution 4.0; focusing on developing the labor market and training new skills,….
