Vietnam corporates with Chile in the field of children and adolescents

(LDXH) On November 9th, at the Palace of President, President of Vietnam Tran Dai Quang had a meeting with President of Chile, Mrs. Michelle Bachelet in the occasion of her appearance in the APEC Economics Leaders Week in Da Nang City.
At the end of the talks, President Tran Dai Quang and Chilean President Michelle Bachelet Jeria witnessed the signing of cooperation documents, included a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Government of the Republic of Chile in the field of children and adolescents.

A Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of children and adolescents was signed by Minister of Labor – Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile Heraldo Munoz. It concluded following contents: policies and legislations related to child rights with a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach, including a system for monitoring, evaluating and monitoring indicators on the implementation of child rights; supporting communication and raising social awareness in caring and rehabilitation for children and adolescents who are victims of Agent Orange, helping the treatment and rehabilitation for children and adolescents affected by Agent Orange; training specialists and technicians to assist those children and adolescents; education, labor and social policies for victims of Agent Orange in Vietnam.

The two parties sign the Vietnam-Chile Joint Statement.

According to the memorandum, Chile also shared the method of reducing and removing dioxins and furans, in the context of the Rotterdam Convention in 1998, to prevent children and adolescents from exposure to these substances. They also talked about their experience in the management and traceability of hazardous waste in the Pollutant Release and Transfer Register system (PRTR).
The memorandum is valid from the date of signing with the term of 5 years may be extended by the two parties.

Speaking at the meeting, President Tran Dai Quang asserted that President Michelle Bachelet was a close friend of the Vietnamese people. This is the second state visit to Vietnam of Michelle Bachele during her presidency, while her first trip was in 2006.
President Tran Dai Quang and Chilean President also expressed their joy for the positive development of comprehensive relations between the two countries in the past and they will strengthen the comprehensive relations between the two countries in the future in the fields of politics, foreign affairs, economics, trade and investment.

“The two parties have achieved so many important results in the field of practical research, such as Chilean experience of rice cultivation in Vietnam. The development of tourism between the two countries will also be promoted through the exemption of visas for holders of general passports signed by both side last August. Since then, a lot of Chileans have been interested in Vietnam, "said President Michelle Bachelet.
