Speaking to the Conference, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Le Tan Dung highly appreciated and supported the theme of the Conference. Along with regional efforts, Vietnam has realized its commitments by ensuring many policies for women and achieved many results in practice.
With a female workforce of 23.5 million, accounting for 46.5% of the country's workforce, Vietnam has always been committed to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment, especially in labour and employment sectors.
Regarding social security in general, the Deputy Minister said that Vietnam aims to ensure social security as one of the key contents of the country's development strategy. Simultaneously, step by step perfect the legal framework to ensure the rights and interests of target groups such as the elderly, people with disabilities and children with respect to basic social services.
The theme "Accelerating the Implementation of Aseam Commitments for Gender Equality through Gender Mainstreaming and Social Inclusion" was chosen in the 11th AMMSWD to recognise the importance of leaving no one behind in the process of building a more inclusive and resilient post-pandemic world.
This theme envisages ASEAN as an inclusive community that promotes high quality of life with equitable access to opportunities for all, and promotes and protects the rights of women and community at large.
The forum brings together government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to collaborate and share experiences on accelerating ASEAN's collective actions, particularly in advancing gender equality and social inclusion in social welfare and development./.
